Christmas Greetings

I couldn’t have been more than 8 years old at the time. I remember waking up and thinking the rapture had taken place. There wasn’t a soul in sight, but the air was filled with the amazing aroma of our Sunday-Sunday delicacy…UKODO…I traced the source and was led to the backyard where my big cousins were cutting, chopping, and frying tins….

“Come on, go and wear slippers”, someone said pulling me away from the jumbo tripod stand. Some firewood arrangement.

Nobody needed to tell me.I ran inside and hurriedly got dressed.Breakfast came but I KNEW it was a special day when my mother gave me one FULL bottle of Fanta. At first I thought it was a joke till I saw my sister’s big coke in front of her.Ah!!

Omo!!!I wan chop DIE…From Ukodo to Starch and Banga to Jollof Rice to Cake….I just de chowwww!!!!

Needless to say I spent the better part of the following day on my toilet seat.

Smh.

But now, if Christmas dey come, person heart go dey cut…Time to kiss your Boss’s ass with a hamper that costs half your salary. And heaven forbid that you gift your precious daughter with a doll!!!when ipad dey? How?

And inspite of the looming February 14th, the National Association of Nigerian Girlfriends have mercilessly flooded every social media avenue with the old“All I want for Christmas”line.

Na wa.

Bottom Line though,Christmas for me will always be about celebrating the birth of my true Love,Jesus.

Sure, it’s also about early-morning Ukodo, firewood jollof rice, and knock-out but today I’m just thankful  for Life, Love,Family and YOU, the dear readers of mypocketfull.

Merry Christmas and God’s unending blessings on you and yours.
